How I do my computing on GNU/Linux

wOt? yOu uSe LiNuX??? aRe yOu sOmE hAckER? No, depends on what you mean by the term hacker if you mean “someone who is playfully clever” heck yeah, I’d agree. Linux is not something hard your Android phone runs Linux right now. Android runs Linux (Android+Linux) So it’s not something new. What I’m concerned is with the GNU part One day Microsoft would replace Windows’s NT with the Linux kernel....

Hardening Signal Messenger for Privacy

#[draft] If you’ve searched for privacy oriented messaging apps, you’ve heard about Signal the navy blue, metadata resistant messaging app. Signal has great, out of the box end to end encryption everywhere, forced 2fa called Signal PINs. For the average WhatsApp user it looks exactly like a clone but Signal out of the box is still lacking in a lot of features and needs a bit of polishing to do when compared to competition like Telegram and Element/Matrix....

Instant Messengers

Unless you’re from the USA, the land of free SMS. You probably use a messaging app like WhatsApp, Signal or Telegram. Why? You get cross device sync, newer features, you can ditch phone numbers as identifiers, privacy controls, cool stickers and emojis. Privacy = Security? A prime example of this is WhatsApp. News sites keep using that buzzword ~ End To End Encryption and say your messages are secure and don’t make apple to apple comparisons....

Dishonest TrebleShot Clones in the name of MadeInIndia

As I blogged in my previous article on #SurveillanceCapitalism. The Chinese app ban confused a lot of people when they see the app they used is no longer available. Most of the apps are bundled with Google and Facebook Ads and are malicious they are filled with bloat and only aim to betray the user by mining their data. The move was a good but biased step ahead, for the user’s privacy but the ban is partial and limited to few apps, particularly Chinese ones, and Big Brother apps like Facebook’s bundled App Manager in OnePlus and other major smartphone vendors and the GAFMA are not in the list....

Digital Privacy and Surveillance-Capitalism

Federating Social Media

I finished setting up my two primary alternatives the Fediverse has to offer Mastodon, Pixelfed and PeerTube Sourabh Gijare on Unsplash I use Twitter Snapchat somewhat, Reddit, YouTube, Mastodon and Telegram [channels], to connect with friends and stay updated. What is missing here is Facebook. Read more I prefer to choose platform that are decentralized, have good integrations with other platforms, RSS and IFTTT support. People shouldn’t have to be locked into a platform, when you post something they always have freedom to opt for another medium to find your amazing work....
