Archiving Google

Google.com is probably your search engine. Google Chrome your web browser. Stock Google flavoured Android + an OEM skin, the OS your phone runs on. Peha on degooglisons-internet.org Google builds high quality products with great security like the Pixel or Chromium but they suck in Privacy and freedom in software. It’s not their concern. They entangle you in their proprietary ecosystem and mix it with great projects like Android or Chromium....

Firefox a mess by Mozilla

“I trust Mozilla more than Google, the problem is Mozilla trusts Google more than you.” Google is the primary search engine, in all their screenshots they advertise Google Search and Google Play rather than self hosting their own F-Droid repo. Google is their primary and only ‘real’ source of income and ironically their competitor. No PeerTube or Mastodon accounts to follow. It’s again Twitter and YouTube. Mozilla bad - Firefox meh If you tweak Firefox and Chromium to the max, the only reason you’d use Firefox is that it’s not controlled by Google, or is it?...

How I do my computing on GNU/Linux

Whaat? you use LiNuX??? aRe yOu sOmE hAckER? No that’s not how it’s to be perceived, people confuse the term hacker if you mean “someone who is playfully clever” heck yeah, I love tinkering stuff, not just computers. (Desktop GNU+)Linux is not something hard, infact your Android phone runs Linux right now. Android runs Linux (Android+Linux) So it’s not something new. What I’m concerned is with the GNU part things like Ubuntu and such....

Hardening Signal Messenger for Privacy

If you’ve searched for privacy oriented messaging apps You’ve probably heard about Signal the navy blue, metadata resistant messaging app. Signal has great, it has better out of the box end to end encryption, forced 2fa called Signal PINs. For the average WhatsApp user the UX feels exactly the same. Same gestures and same phone number based groups. Signal out of the box still lacks a bit of polish....

Instant Messengers

Unless you’re from the USA, the land of free SMS. You probably use a messaging app like WhatsApp, Signal or Telegram. Why? You get cross device sync, newer features, you can ditch phone numbers as identifiers, privacy controls, cool stickers and emojis. Privacy = Security? A prime example of this is WhatsApp. News sites keep using that buzzword ~ End To End Encryption and say your messages are secure and don’t make apple to apple comparisons....

Fedi First

I posted recently, on my Mastodon As you can deduct, I’m a big fan of the fediverse and I blogged about me-switching to the fediverse a long while ago. I deleted Snapchat too. YouTube turned on ads for everyone A concept ~ How it works Post content to the decentralized fediverse first, before they air on corportate social media ~ reboost it, cross platfrom and aim for organic growth not to please an algorithm Post content to PeerTube a day or two before it goes to YouTube, post to Mastodon and use IFTTT to auto fetch the rss feed and post the link to your toot to Twitter....

Dishonest TrebleShot Clones in the name of MadeInIndia

The Chinese app ban confused a lot of people when they see the app they used is no longer available. Most of the apps are bundled with Google and Facebook Ads and are malicious they are filled with bloat and only aim to betray the user by mining their data. I blogged in my previous article on #SurveillanceCapitalism. The move was a good but biased step ahead, for the user’s privacy but the ban is partial and limited to few apps, particularly Chinese ones, and Big Brother apps like Facebook’s bundled App Manager in OnePlus and other major smartphone vendors and the GAFMA are not in the list....

Digital Privacy and Surveillance-Capitalism

China; heard about China in these recent days? The app bans and censoring websites in the so called name of national security and the privacy of our citizens? Parker Coffman on Unsplash While ironically we use American services and big tech giants like GAFAM YBSLE - Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0 Google, Apple, Facebook (Instagram and WhatsApp), Amazon and Microsoft and they don’t face the ban hammer because of their privacy violations....

Why I don't do normal phone calls

Huh? What I mean by normal calls is heading to your phone app, dialing my number and hitting the call button. No; Don’t do that. I have the phone app disabled on my phone Airplane mode turned on and most of the year, don’t have an active SIM plugged in, and no I DO NOT use WhatsApp (FACEBOOK) or any app that needs a real, active, phone number. Circumvent Censorship with Tor

Unblock domains, access websites freely and securely This article is a quick how to guide on circumventing censorship online. What is Tor? Tor is free and open-source software for enabling anonymous communication. The name is derived from an acronym for the original software project name “The Onion Router”.[7][8] Tor directs Internet traffic through a free, worldwide, volunteer overlay network consisting of more than seven thousand relays[9] to conceal a user’s location and usage from anyone conducting network surveillance or traffic analysis....
