Big Break

I’m preparing for competitive entrance exams for engineering I’m taking a break from uploading often on PeerTube & Odysee P.S. 1.5 Million kids write this exam and it’s really tough to crack and get a good rank. Let’s see how that goes. I’ll be focusing more on text posts, back to blogging and learning C++ during the 2nd half of this year. Good videos take a lot of time to produce, especially editing on a small screen with Kdenlive....

Phones Make Me Counter Productive

vertical image ~ ironic you’re probably reading this on a phone This post is a reflection on Digital Minimalism on my Phone (FOSS) I wrote exactly a year ago. A year ago I yeeted all my apps, disabled notifications, started using FOSS apps in the hope that I spend my time efficienly. After the initial few weeks the ‘FOSS’ and ‘Ad Free’ apps get just as much addictive as the mainstream ones....

The Apple Illusion ~ On Privacy & Freedom

Hussam Abd on Unsplash iPhones and MacBooks are beautiful pieces of hardware that you can ‘rent’ from Apple & that’s about it. Why did I specifically use the word ‘rent’? Ales Nesetril on Unsplash The only thing you ever ‘buy’ from Apple is their marketing Apple devices - natively run their proprietary operating systems. iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS & MacOS. They make is either difficult or impossible to sideload apps (iOS) / run your own OS on the phone - you seemingly ‘paid for’....

Cold Turkey 2021

2021 is the year I complete my general schooling, plan ahead, learn Python, and catch up on my backlog. Because 2020 has taught us that anything can happen at times when we are the least prepared I’m sure we’ve all heard of ‘New Year resolutions’- So cRiNgY.. ew. This post is not that, two weeks before new years. I plan to dive head first, cold turkey whatever you wanna call it....

Archiving Google

Google is probably your search engine. Google Chrome, your web browser. Google flavoured Android + an OEM skin, the OS your phone runs on. YouTube? the only source for video content. Peha on degooglisons-internet.org Google builds high quality products with great security like Pixel or the Chromium browser but they suck in Privacy and freedom in software. It’s not their concern. All attempts at making their projects good are neutered with their proprietary anti-features like data collection, telemetry and straightup spyware....

Firefox a mess by Mozilla

“I trust Mozilla more than Google, the problem is Mozilla trusts Google more than you.” Google is their primary search engine, in all their screenshots they advertise Google Search and Google Play rather than self hosting their own F-Droid repo. Google is their primary and only ‘real’ source of income and ironically their competitor. No PeerTube or Mastodon accounts to follow. It’s again Twitter and YouTube. Firefox by default, is more invasive of privacy than Brave or Chromium https://fosspost....

How I do my computing on GNU/Linux

Whaat? you use LiNuX??? aRe yOu sOmE hAckER? No, that’s not how I perceive it. People ahem, mainstream media - confuse the term hacker. I mean - ‘hacking’ as in ‘a hacksmith’ - “someone who is playfully clever”. I love tinkering stuff, not just computers. Desktop GNU+Linux is not something hard. GNU/Linux is about freedom. You get to modify each and every thing about your system to get your perfect match...

Hardening Signal Messenger for Privacy

If you’ve searched for privacy oriented messaging apps Signal tops that list. By now you’ve probably heard about Signal the centralized, navy blue, metadata resistant messaging app, now anchored by an ex WhatsApp co-founder. Signal values great security and it has strong, out of the box client side end to end encryption, plus forced 2fa called Signal PINs. For the average WhatsApp user the UX feels exactly the same....

Instant Messengers

Unless you’re from the USA, the land of free SMS. You probably use a messaging app like WhatsApp, Signal or Telegram. Why? You get cross device sync, newer features, you can ditch phone numbers as identifiers, privacy controls, stickers and emojis Does Privacy = Security? A prime example of this is ‘WhatsApp’. News and media websites keep using that buzzword ~ End To End Encryption and say your messages are secure....

Fedi First

I posted recently, on my Mastodon As you can deduct, I’m a big fan of the fediverse and I blogged about switching to the fediverse a long while ago and it’s going great. I deleted Snapchat too. YouTube turned on ads for everyone A concept of how it works Post content to the decentralized fediverse first, before they air on corportate social media ~ reboost it, cross platfrom and aim for organic growth not to please an algorithm Post content to PeerTube a day or two before it goes to YouTube, post to Mastodon and use IFTTT to auto fetch the rss feed and post the link to your toot to Twitter....
